Short answer
Most safaris include a shared transfer from hotels and residences inside a defined area. After booking, the operator confirms a pickup time window and the vehicle details. Confirm the pickup zone using your accommodation address. A Dubai pickup package may not include another emirate.
How pickup works
Safari camps and desert areas are outside the city, so operators collect guests and drive them out. The usual process:
- You book and enter your accommodation name and address, or choose a meeting point if the option uses one.
- The operator confirms a pickup window, often the day before or on the day. The message may come by phone, messaging app or email.
- The driver collects you in a shared 4x4 or minibus, often picking up other guests on the way.
- The vehicle drives to the desert. Sometimes guests change vehicles at a meeting area before the dunes.
- The return transfer drops you back at the same address or area.
There is no single desert safari address in Dubai. Each operator uses its own desert area and camp, which is why you rarely need to know the exact location in advance.
Pickup zones and other emirates
Operators define the area they collect from. A package described as "pickup from Dubai" covers addresses in an area of Dubai the operator serves. Some options also list Sharjah, Ajman or other emirates, sometimes with a supplement, and some do not cover them at all.
Listings are not always consistent. One of the packages we compare mentions Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman in different parts of its description. In that situation, do not assume your address is covered. Check pickup coverage for your accommodation before booking.
Outlying areas of Dubai, such as distant residential communities, can also fall outside the standard zone. If you are staying away from the main hotel areas, ask before you pay.
Pickup by package
| Package | Pickup coverage |
|---|---|
| Sunset safari with BBQ | Check pickup coverage for your accommodation before booking. |
| Six-hour BBQ safari | Check pickup coverage for your accommodation before booking. |
| Al Khayma Camp safari | Check pickup coverage for your accommodation before booking. |
| Quad bike safari with BBQ | Transfer from Dubai. Pickup from other emirates is not part of the base package. |
| Morning safari options | Depends on the selected option. |
| Evening safari options | Depends on the selected option. |
Pickup windows and waiting
Shared transfers collect several groups, so pickup times are given as a window rather than an exact minute. Being ready at the start of the window, in the lobby or at the entrance, keeps the whole vehicle on time.
- Evening safaris usually collect guests in the afternoon so the group reaches the dunes before sunset.
- Sunrise options collect very early. Check whether your accommodation's entrance is open at that hour.
- Late drivers. Traffic can delay pickups. Contact the operator using the number in your voucher if the window passes.
- Missed pickups. If you are not at the agreed place, the driver may leave to keep the group on schedule, and refunds are often not given. Read the terms for your option.
Before you pay
- Enter your exact accommodation name and address, not only the area.
- Check whether the option lists your emirate or area for pickup.
- Look for supplements for outlying areas or other emirates.
- Check whether the option uses a meeting point instead of hotel pickup.
- Decide between shared and private transfer. Private costs more but is more flexible.
- If you need child seats, ask in advance. Shared vehicles may not have them.
On the day
- Keep your phone charged and reachable. Drivers often message or call on arrival.
- Save your voucher and the operator's contact number offline.
- Tell the hotel reception that you are expecting a safari pickup, especially in large hotels with several entrances.
- Bring only a small bag. Space is shared with other guests.
